Journal For Class English Learning Skills in Academic Contexts

In the end of today’s class, we listen to a music called where has all the time gone. Our teacher suggested that we might think about the passing time. As for me, it is quite a good question. It has been 3 years since I graduated from high school, but to tell the truth, I didn’t achieve most of the goals which was set at first.

Maybe it is a good opportunity for me to reflect. It will be meaningful for me to list all the unfulfilled goals. The first goal is about my major, because my major is software engineering, my goal is to be a great coder and even become a geek. So when I was a freshman, I told myself that I must practice coding every day. However, I didn’t do it very well, in the past 3 years, there were always all kinds of chores disturbing me so that I seldom concentrated on coding. In my opinion, coding is an exciting job. I can create wonderful applications with a variety of programming languages and tools. So what is the problem for me? Maybe I always think too much and do too little. In the future, it is better for me to think less, I must concentrate on one project in a period of time, or I won’t complete either of them.

The second goal is studying English well. When I was in high school, my listening and speaking skills are not very proficient. So I decided to get up early and practice them every day. But in most of the time, I didn’t do it very well. And now, my listening is better, but my oral English is still not good. I think the reason why I didn’t make it is that the plan is too long and not clear, as a result, there is no assessment about my task fulfillment. So I won’t develop a long plan for my English study, I just learn English in all possible fragments of time.

What’s more, there are also many small goals during the past 3 years. Some of them were achieved, and some of them were not completed well. How time flies! Setting goals is always easy, but it is difficult for us to finish them with persistent efforts.

Time is treasure, we must cherish it!
